Hello friends and families,

Today was the big day that everyone had been looking forward to, our excursion to York. For anyone who hasn’t been before, York is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in England. It was founded by the Romans nearly 2,000 years ago, and The Shambles is often said to have inspired Diagon Alley from Harry Potter, so there’s a little something for everyone.

The students were on their best behaviour all day, which always makes a trip like this much more enjoyable. We started the day at the National Railway Museum, which is a brilliant free museum and conveniently on the way into the city centre. After that we had a walk around York, taking in places like The Shambles, Clifford’s Tower and part of the old city walls before finishing with a bit of shopping.

So, when the students get home, you can all expect some truly high quality souvenirs. I’m sure every single purchase was completely sensible and absolutely not based on who could find the biggest bag of sweets. The weather was actually perfect. It wasn’t exactly sunny, but it stayed dry all day, which in the UK is definitely a win, especially compared with the temperatures everyone is dealing with in Spain at the moment.

Once we got back to Ampleforth we had a light buffet dinner, and tonight is movie night. I’ve escaped from the film for a few minutes to write this post. The movie was actually filmed here on campus using many of the same buildings the students have been using all week, so it’s always nice watching them realise they’ve already been in so many of the filming locations.

Hopefully tomorrow will be just as good as today. We’ll keep the photos coming, and we’ll see you all tomorrow.

Hola, amigos y familias.
