Hello friends and families,
Welcome back! It’s been another gloriously chilly-ish kind of day here at Ampleforth College. As you know, yesterday was our big excursion to York, so by the time we got back everyone was definitely ready for a quieter evening. We finished the day by watching a film that was actually shot here on the campus a few years ago, using many of the same buildings the students have been in all week. They always love recognising different places, so it went down really well. Unfortunately, I don’t have any action photos from movie night, but I’ll try to update the blog posts with more pictures anytime that I can. One of our fabulous monitors, Sonia, showed me her step counter last night and we ended up walking around 18 kilometres yesterday in York, so I think we’d all earned a slightly slower start to the day. Being Sunday, we also got the ultra rare luxury of breakfast at 9 o’clock, which is definitely a Sunday- only privilege. We had a full English breakfast, which, for anyone who’s never tried one, is basically meat with meat, served alongside some eggs, beans and some more meat. It’s definitely not something you’d want every morning, but when in Rome..
This morning the students spent their time preparing for tonight’s big event, the Ampleforth Got Talent extravaganza. Everybody takes part in some way, even if it’s only a small role, and it’s always one of the funniest evenings of the week. There are some great prizes up for grabs this year as well, so the competition has definitely already started. We also have our wonderful guest judges, who I’m sure will be completely fair and not enjoy being dramatic at all.
This afternoon the weather finally reminded us that we’re in England, so the students swapped the outdoor activities for arts and crafts. There was bracelet making, painting and plenty of other creative activities, which was a perfect way to spend a slightly rainy afternoon.
Tonight is, of course, the Got Talent show itself. I’ll try to get as many photos uploaded as possible and, if I miss any, I’ll add them later. We’re all looking forward to seeing everyone’s performances and, most importantly, making sure they all have a great time. After all, that’s what this week is really about: having fun, making friends and learning some English along the way.
See you all tomorrow, and as always, thanks for stopping by.

Hola, amigos y familias.
