Hello friends and families,
Welcome back! It feels like only a few minutes ago that we were last chatting.. So let’s talk about yesterday. Wednesday was the first of our big all-day excursions, and it was to the North Yorkshire Water Park, one of the largest outdoor adventure destinations in North Yorkshire. After an earlier-than-usual breakfast, we got ourselves suited and booted and set off, ready for a full day of exhilirating activities.
Ironically, though, the one day we were due to spend almost entirely in the water was the only day since this new turn started that the sun decided not to make an appearance. Still, we weren’t going to let that stop us. I suppose that’s just part of life in the north of England. You get the weather you’re given! We started the day with the low ropes course before moving on to a puzzle-based escape room. Our instructor from the water park was genuinely impressed with how well the students did. He told us that plenty of English groups struggle with some of the puzzles, especially the riddles, so it was really nice to hear such positive feedback. It was a great reminder of just how good the students’ English is and how well they worked together as a team.
After lunch, it was finally time to get out onto the water. Admittedly, everyone was a little sceptical at first. It was pretty chilly, the sun still wasn’t out and plenty of people were coming back from the lake saying how cold the water was. Thankfully, the instructors were absolutely brilliant. They got everyone laughing from the very beginning, joined in with the students, pushed a few of them into the water every now and then and made sure everyone was having fun. Once they’d got over the initial shock of the cold, the students were jumping off the giant paddleboards, swimming around the lake and having an amazing time. The final activity of the day was what everyone had been waiting for: the Wipeout Zone. After watching the safety video and getting fitted with helmets and life jackets, everyone headed out onto the giant inflatable obstacle course. For the next hour they climbed, bounced, slid, jumped and launched themselves into the lake over and over again. Although there was plenty of freedom to explore, the instructors kept everyone moving with different challenges and ideas, so it was the perfect mix of free play and organised activities. There was never a dull moment. Once everyone had finally had their fill of jumping into the lake, we headed back to get changed, dry off and warm up… just in time for the sun to come out, of course.
Back at the house we had a bit of a conundrum from the student’s point of view. Around a quarter of the girls were completely hooked on a romance film, while the rest of the students wanted to watch the England v Argentina match, not to mention they were all tired from the long day of activities. So, as a compromise, we agreed to have one final, very energetic evening activity first, before everyone got to settle down and watch what they wanted.
We certainly didn’t take the easy option. We played a huge game of Capture the Flag, splitting everyone into two large clans. Each team designed its own flag, came up with a motto and even invented a bit of its own history before heading out onto the fields to battle it out. There was a lot of running, a lot of shouting and a lot of determined flag stealing. Everybody threw themselves into it completely, and after such a full-on day at the water park it was exactly the final push they needed.
After that, everyone got to enjoy the evening their own way. The football fans settled down for England v Argentina, while the romance fans finished their film. By the time 10:30 came around, everyone was absolutely exhausted, happily entertained and more than ready for bed. We couldn’t really have asked for a better way to end such a brilliant day.
Thank you all so much for stopping by once again today, and we’ll see you tomorrow for the next update.

Hola, amigos y familias,
