Hello again friends and families,

Yesterday was another great day, even if the weather hasn’t exactly been on our side over the past couple of days. The clouds have started to appear a little more, although for this part of the world we really can’t complain. Having so many sunny days in a row is actually quite unusual here, so we’ve definitely been lucky. I’m sure that when everyone gets back home and the temperatures start rising again, some people might even find themselves missing the days of wearing a jumper in July in Amplfeforth. Despite the slightly cloudier weather, everyone is still making the most of every moment here. One of the best things about this place is the slower pace of life, and this group has really embraced it. We’ve found students sitting around the campus chatting, relaxing and just enjoying the surroundings. For some of them, especially those coming from busy cities like Barcelona, it couldn’t be more different from what they’re used to. It’s really nice to see how well they’ve adapted to such a different environment.

Anyway, yesterday was one of the classic Ampleforth camp events: the (second annual) Ampleforth’s Got Talent show. During the activity time, the students worked on preparing and practising their talents under supervision. While one group was in class, the other group was working on their performances, and then they swapped over. It was also a nice opportunity for everyone to spend some time with people outside of their closest friendship groups, while still being able to choose who they wanted to work with if they really did want to be with someone specific. Finally, the evening arrived and it was time for the big event itself. Our three judges got suited and booted, ready with their carefully prepared personalities and their very serious judging faces.

First of all, we want to say how much we appreciate everyone who got up in front of the group and performed something. It takes a lot of confidence to put yourself out there, and hopefully in the future they will look back and be proud that they decided to take part.
Of course, there could only be three prize winners because we didn’t have enough prizes for everyone. The points and prizes they earn will be useful later in the week, when they will have the chance to exchange their points for different rewards. Third place went to a huge theatrical performance with twelve participants: Arlet, María. M, Marc, Bernat, Yann, Naia, Alicia, Danna, Aina, Laia. G and María. V. It was a really funny and creative performance, and it was great to see so many people working together to create something as well. Second place went to a very well-practised and carefully choreographed dance routine performed by Laia. R, Ivette, Adriana and Martina. Finally, our first-place winner was Adrià, who really put himself out there by getting up in front of everyone and performing by himself in front of everybody. The judges were so impressed with his confidence and performance that he was the one who took home the top prize. Of course, the most important thing was seeing everyone get involved and have the courage to perform. There will be plenty more chances throughout the week to earn points, collect prizes and surprise us with more talents, but yesterday was a fantastic reminder of how much fun it can be to try something new.

Thank you all so much, as always, for stopping by and reading the blog.
See you tomorrow!
