Welcome back again, friends and families.

Yesterday marked the end of our final weekend together, and also our last full day without classes. Today it’s back to normal, with everyone returning to the classroom to learn as much English as possible before heading home and impressing everyone with their newly acquired language skills. Because we didn’t have classes yesterday, we had the chance to spend much more time all together, which is always a bit of a treat. We wanted to make the most of it by doing a couple of activities the students had been asking for all week. The first was the famous dirty gymkhana, where the main objective was, quite simply, to get as dirty and messy as possible while making sure everyone else did too. It was basically supervised chaos from beginning to end, and judging by the smiles, we’d say it was a huge success. Once everyone had cleaned themselves up again, we stayed at the house for a barbecue in the garden. Yesterday’s weather was absolutely perfect. Not too hot, not too cold, just right. It gave us the perfect excuse to relax outside together, enjoy some good food and make the most of another lovely afternoon in great company.

Later on, with everyone together, it was time for our annual Olympic Games competition. The students competed in football, gymnastics, rounders, tennis and, finally, relay races. Representing the four great nations of the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Ukraine and Puerto Rico, everyone gave it their all throughout the afternoon. Congratulations go to Team Puerto Rico, who were crowned this year’s champions, although we were just as impressed by the effort and enthusiasm shown by every single team.
After dinner, it was finally time for the evening that everyone had been waiting for: the World Cup final. The big question was whether Spain could finally lift the trophy once again. Waka Waka is still a song that everyone seems to know, even if none of the students were around when it first became famous, so it was time for them to hopefully make their own history. We all headed to the theatre to make the most of the giant screen and the tiered seating. To say it was a passionate evening would be an understatement. There was plenty of shouting, cheering, laughing and nervous moments throughout the match. In the end, it lasted a little longer than any of us had expected, but thankfully Spain managed to win in extra time, sparing everyone the tension of a penalty shootout. The celebrations afterwards said it all. Everyone was absolutely delighted, and we’re so glad that such a memorable sporting moment was one they got to experience together here at camp.

Another brilliant day, another brilliant evening and, as always, another reminder of how quickly time is flying by.
Thank you all so much for stopping by and reading the blog.
See you tomorrow!
