Hello friends and families,
Hello again! The It’s hard to believe how quickly the days have flown by. In fact, we’re now counting down the hours rather than the days we have left together, and that’s a slightly sad thought. This has been such a fantastic group that none of us really wants camp to come to an end, but we’re determined to make the very most of the little time we still have together. Tonight is our big farewell disco, so yesterday’s activity was all about getting ready for it. The students spent the afternoon decorating the envelopes they’ll use to leave messages for one another before camp ends, as well as making all sorts of decorations and props for the disco itself. This group has been incredibly creative all week. They’ve already made some fantastic photo-call displays, so we’re expecting tonight’s photos to be something really special. Bracelet making has also become a bit of a trademark of this camp. For the last ten days, they’ve been making bracelets for friends, for themselves and for each other at almost every opportunity. So it’s no surprise that they threw themselves into the decoration activity with loads of enthusiasm. While one group was busy creating, the other was in class, making the most of the last few English lessons before heading home. One thing we’ve really noticed with this group is how willing they are to speak English with all the staff throughout the day, so even the strongest speakers have continued improving. It’s been brilliant to see.
In the evening it was finally time for karaoke night. We’d been hoping to fit it into the programme all week, but with so many evening activities already planned, this was our first opportunity. Quite a few students had been asking for it, so we were very happy to make it happen. For those who weren’t quite brave enough to take to the microphone, we organised an alternative activity with one of the monitors. They settled down to watch The Others, Alejandro Amenábar’s classic film starring Nicole Kidman. It’s rated 12 and has just the right amount of creepy atmosphere without being too scary, so we ended up having a little horror night alongside the karaoke. The karaoke itself was brilliant. With a slightly smaller audience, everyone seemed much more confident about getting up to sing. We heard plenty of great songs, both old and new, and, of course, lots of English classics. It turned into another really lovely evening and another reminder of what a fantastic group this has been from start to finish.
As always, a huge thank you to all of the students for the enthusiasm and effort they’ve shown throughout the week.
See you tomorrow for our final blog update. Until then!
