Hello friends and families,

Welcome to the blog! Yesterday was the big day: the day everyone finally arrived here at camp. As you all know, it was a very long day from the very beginning, with an early start to catch the flight to Manchester and then finally a coach journey up to North Yorkshire where the campus is located. This is by far our biggest group of the summer, almost twice the size of the previous camps,  but the first impressions have been fantastic, and we’re really excited to spend the next eleven days together. By the time everyone finally arrived at Ampleforth College, they were understandably pretty tired after such a long journey. At the same time, though, everyone was excited to discover such a different setting. We’re based in the beautiful countryside of North Yorkshire, surrounded by nature and a long way from the hustle and bustle of city life. In fact, we’re around half an hour’s walk from the nearest shop, so it really does feel like we’re in our own little world here, which is one of the things that makes camp such a special place.

After getting everyone settled into their rooms (which is always an adventure in itself), it was finally time for dinner. The kitchen very kindly made an exception for us and served dinner at 6:30 instead of the usual 6:00, which I’m sure came as quite a surprise to many of the students, but don’t worry, everyone will eventually get used to the very British meal times. After dinner, we kept things nice and relaxed so everyone could recover a little after such a long day of travelling. There was plenty to do around the house and campus. We have huge green spaces to enjoy, table tennis, a pool table, sports equipment and even two pianos. As it happens, two of our students are fantastic pianists, and they treated everyone to a couple of impromptu performances, which was a really lovely way to end the afternoon.

Later in the evening it was time for our first getting-to-know-you activity. With such a large group, helping everyone learn each other’s names and start making friends straight away was a really important first step. We were so pleased to see how enthusiastic everyone was. The students threw themselves into the activities, got involved from the very beginning and made a real effort to meet as many new people as possible. A summer camp is only as good as the energy everyone brings to it, and if yesterday is anything to go by, we’re going to have a fantastic time together. We were also very lucky with the weather. It was one of those perfect British summer days: warm without being too hot, with plenty of breeze to enjoy. After the evening activity, everyone had their evening snack before heading off to bed for a well-earned rest after such a busy day. Today we’ve got plenty more activities planned, and tomorrow we’ll be heading off on our first big excursion to York, so there’s lots to look forward to over the next few days. Thank you so much for stopping by and reading the blog.
See you tomorrow!

Hola, amigos y familias,
