Today was our first full day in Bundoran, and it certainly gave us a proper Irish welcome… with plenty of rain! 🌧️😂 Armed with our ponchos, we made our way to school, ready to kick off this new adventure at DELS – Donegal English Language School 📚.
The morning was all about getting settled into our new surroundings. We started with our English placement test 📝 before taking part in a range of cultural and general knowledge activities about Ireland ☘️, as well as fun icebreakers to get to know the other students. With young people from Spain, France, Italy, Germany, and Austria 🌍, the campus is already buzzing with different languages, cultures, and new friendships!
In the afternoon, it was time to swap our rain jackets for wetsuits! Everyone grabbed their swimsuits and headed down to the beach for our first surfing lesson 🏄 . After learning the basics, it was finally time to hit the waves! There were plenty of wipeouts 😂, lots of successful rides 🌊🤙, and even more laughter as everyone gave surfing their best shot.
As if that wasn’t enough, we also explored the nearby sea caves 🪨 and were lucky enough to spot dolphins swimming just offshore! 🐬 It was definitely one of those moments we’ll remember for a long time.
After two hours of cold water, adrenaline, and endless fun 💙, we returned to Surfers Bay, our residence, to warm up before heading to the school canteen for dinner 🍽️.
The fun didn’t stop there! Back at the residence, the evening was all about getting to know one another through a variety of icebreaker activities 🤝🎉. From introducing ourselves to hilarious teamwork challenges, balancing flour as we passed it from one person to another, playing UNO, enjoying a game of volleyball, or simply chatting about our favourite books and films, there really was something for everyone.
After such an action-packed first day, everyone was more than ready for a hot shower 🚿 and a well-deserved night’s sleep 😴, excited to see what tomorrow brings.
The adventure in Bundoran has only just begun… and we already can’t wait for more! 💚
