Hello friends and families,
Welcome back again! The time has finally come where I get to tell you all about our big excursion to York. Often considered one of the most beautiful and historic cities in England, York is an absolutely spectacular place to visit, and if you get the chance I totally recommend it. It was founded by the Romans almost 2,000 years ago, was once a Viking capital, and today still has some of the best-preserved medieval streets and city walls anywhere in England. It’s one of those places where every corner seems to have another story to tell, so it’s always the highlight of the camp.
We were up nice and early to make the most of the day. Our first stop was the National Railway Museum, which is always a brilliant place to begin. As well as seeing some interesting trains from Britain’s railway history, it’s also a great place for the students to wander around, take photos, grab a drink at the café and ease themselves into the day before heading into the city centre. From there, we continued our walking tour through York, making our way to Clifford’s Tower. The tower is all that remains of York Castle, built by William the Conqueror almost a thousand years ago, and it sits on top of a hill with fantastic views across the city. It has witnessed some incredibly important moments in English history, so it was another really interesting stop along the way. Our final sightseeing stop was York Minster, one of the largest and most impressive Gothic cathedrals anywhere in Europe. It’s undoubtedly the city’s most famous landmark, and it’s one of those buildings that still manages to impress you no matter how many times you’ve seen it (for me it was the 19th). Standing in front of it never really gets old. Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for: shopping time. Everyone split into their groups, which we had established the night before, and headed off to explore the city at their own pace. Judging by the number of bags everyone brought back to the bus, I’d say there were some very successful shopping trips. So it’s safe to say that most of you families can expect some truly spectacular fridge magnets, and if not surely at least a bag of Haribo’s. It was a lovely day and it went off without a hitch, so we’re so grateful for that and happy that everyone had such a great day. With great weather, fantastic company and the backdrop of a beautiful ancient city to inspire us all the way.
By the time we got back to camp, it had been a long day and everyone was definitely feeling it. But, as I mentioned yesterday, we’ve got far too many activities planned to start skipping any event. There simply isn’t time for a quiet evening. So we jumped straight into our night activity: Just Dance and Musical Bingo. Everyone absolutely threw themselves into it, as always. There was plenty of dancing, singing and, by the end of the evening, more than a few very sweaty and very tired students. It turned out to be the perfect way to use up the last bit of energy before bed. The reward for all that hard work came this morning, though. For the first time this camp, everyone got to enjoy a bit of a lie-in with a 9:00 a.m. wake-up, and to say everyone was happy when they heard that news last night would be quite the understatement. Today has been just as busy, so I’ll tell you all about today’s adventures tomorrow.
Thank you so much, as always, for stopping by and reading the blog.
Have a wonderful evening, and I’ll see you tomorrow!

Hola, amigos y familias,
